With some simple brushing techniques, and a bit of color tweaking, you can spice up your photos with this flaming hair tutorial. Phoenix Hair Effect This effect relies on a good photo. You’re going to a shot of some long hair, preferably flowing in the wind or tossed in the air. Blonde hair is going to work best, so if your model has darker locks, try changing it to blonde in Photoshop.

The majority of the work in this involves brushing the hair with the Smudge Tool. Use a grungy brush, with a small diameter and 50% strength to start. Begin towards the head and brush outwards, creating organic flowing movements.

Follow the hair’s natural direction as shown in the illustration below (notice the wavy black strokes). Once you’ve touched every strand, duplicate your layer and use a larger diameter brush to go over the hair again. Be careful not to touch the ears or skin.

When your satisfied with your wispy hair, use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to select the hair — you don’t need to be exact here. Now Feather your selection by 15 pixels. With your hair selected, bump up the brightness by +9, and the contrast by +41. These settings will vary depending on your image — we’re just trying to intensify the hair. Now comes the color correction. Make the hair glow by adding yellow shadows and highlights. Play with the settings until you’ve got your fire. All of this fire will create heat, so take the Blur Tool and add some blurry spots to the edges of the face and neck. For some final enhancements, use the brush tool with a bright yellow and feather in a few hot spots on a new layer. Blur this layer and change the Blending Mode to Overlay.

That should do it. Add an overall yellow hue to your final image and put on your shades! Phoenix Hair Effect

Couple held by pirates beg for help

Paul and Rachel Chandler seen being examined by doctor in footage shot by news agency A couple kidnapped by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean issued another desperate plea for help today, begging the British government to help secure their release. Paul and Rachel Chandler, of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, were captured while sailing from the Seychelles towards Tanzania in their yacht, the Lynn Rival, on 23 October. In a video filmed by the French news agency AFP, Paul Chandler begged the British government to help: “I just want to say please to my government get me and my wife out of here. “We are innocent, we have done no wrong. We have no money and we can’t pay a ransom. “We just need the government to help, anyone who can help us out of here. Day after day and this is 98 days of solitary confinement, no exercise. “I don’t know what to do. Will somebody please help? The government or somebody else.” A doctor was seen examining retired quantity surveyor Chandler, 60, who is reportedly in a better state than his wife. The couple were separated from each other by their captors and are being held on land. In the video Rachel Chandler, 56, said she was feeling lonely without her husband. “I need to be with Paul. We are husband and wife. We have always been together and we look after one another. “I am 56 and my husband is 60 – we are not young people. “These people are treating us so cruelly.” As the doctor spoke to her, she kept her hands clenched and added: “It’s very hard to keep going.” The medic found Mrs Chandler in poor mental health, calling out for her husband, AFP reported. “She is sick, she is very anxious, she suffers from insomnia,” Dr Mohamed Helmi Hangul told the agency. “She’s very confused, she’s always asking about her husband – ‘Where’s my husband, where’s my husband?’ – and she seems completely disorientated.” Last week, the foreign secretary, David Miliband, insisted the government would not get involved in any ransom payments to secure the Chandlers’ release. He said he could not stop private individuals from pursuing the possibility of a ransom deal, but that the government had always made it clear that making concessions to hostage-takers was not in Britain’s interests. It came after the Chandlers said they feared they could be killed within days and pleaded for help in a “desperate situation”. The pirates have said that if the UK government is unwilling to pay for their return, their friends should raise the money. A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are monitoring the situation very closely and are doing everything we can to help secure a release. “We remain in regular contact with the family and are providing support. “We call for the safe and swift release of Paul and Rachel.” Piracy at sea Somalia guardian.co.uk

US boosts missile presence in Gulf as warning to Iran

Pentagon expands Patriot missile programme across Middle East after Tehran repeatedly spurns hand of diplomacy The Obama administration is intensifying pressure on Iran by increasing its missile defences in the Middle East to defend against potential missile strikes in the region by Tehran, it emerged today. The US military has boosted the capability of land-based Patriot defensive missiles in several Arab nations in the Gulf, and one official told the Associated Press the navy was also increasing the presence of ships capable of knocking out hostile missiles in flight. The move – reported in several US newspapers this morning – appears to be a deliberate attempt by the White House to ratchet up pressure on Iran ahead of attempts to increase sanctions against the country. The US is reappraising its Iran policy after months of unsuccessful diplomatic moves, and is attempting to win broad international consensus for sanctions against the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, believed to control a covert nuclear arms programme, the New York Times reported . Last week, in his state of the union speech, Barack Obama spoke of “consequences” if Iran failed to comply with UN demands to stop nuclear fuel production. The move is also an attempt to dissuade Israel from unilateral strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, the New York Times said. A military official said the deployments in the Gulf should be seen as prudent defensive measures designed to deter Iran from taking aggressive action in the region. According to AP, officials held secret talks yesterday on aspects of the defensive strategy. Details have not been announced, in part because of diplomatic sensitivities in Gulf countries that worry about Iranian military capabilities but are cautious about acknowledging US protection. The White House will send a review of ballistic missile strategy to Congress tomorrow. Attention to defence of the Gulf region and co-operation with Russia are major elements of the study, according to documents obtained by AP. On a trip to London last week, the US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, told reporters that the failure of Iran to take up offers for fresh talks over its nuclear programme meant the US would press for additional sanctions against the Iranian government. General David Petraeus, the US central command chief responsible for US military operations across the Middle East, has mentioned the upgrade of Patriot missile systems in several recent public speeches. Patriot batteries were originally deployed in the region to shoot down aircraft but can now hit missiles in flight. In remarks at Georgetown Law School 10 days ago, Petraeus said the US had eight Patriot missile batteries stationed in the Gulf region, with two in each of four countries. He did not name the countries, but Kuwait has long been known to have Patriots on its territory. A military official said yesterday that the three other countries are the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, which also hosts the US navy’s 5th Fleet headquarters, and Qatar, home to a modernised US air operations centre that has played a key role in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. UN begins major Haiti food push

Posted by admin On January - 31 - 2010 | Vizualizari: 63 ADD COMMENTS

The UN is to begin a major programme of food distribution in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, almost three weeks after the deadly earthquake. Sixteen sites have been set up across the city with the aim of reaching two million people over two weeks. The move came as doctors voiced concern that the US had halted the evacuation of the critically injured to the US. And at least nine Americans were held on suspicion of trying to take children out of the country unauthorised. A Haiti government spokesman, Yves Christallin, said the Americans were caught with more than 30 children on the border with the Dominican Republic, where they said they had an orphanage. Women only The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) said it had established fixed sites for food distribution, to begin on Sunday. ” This new system will allow us to provide food assistance to more people, more quickly through a robust network of fixed distribution sites ” Josette Sheeran WFP executive director Haiti holds US ‘child smugglers’ BBC Caribbean Only women will be allowed to collect earthquake relief supplies, because – the WFP says – this has proved that is the best way to get food to the people who need it. Men will be encouraged to wait outside the distribution centres to accompany women after they have been given rations, because lone women would be more vulnerable to attack. The WFP would work with the local authorities to ensure that men in need of assistance were not excluded, it said. On Saturday, the UN body started to hand out food coupons for the distribution sites. Each family will be entitled to collect 25kg (55lb) of rice rations, designed to last two weeks. “Up until now the nature of this emergency has forced us to work in a ‘quick and dirty’ way simply to get food out,” said Executive Director Josette Sheeran. “This new system will allow us to provide food assistance to more people, more quickly through a robust network of fixed distribution sites.” The WFP says it has reached 600,000 people with over 16 million meals since the earthquake, amid huge logistical problems caused by damage to local infrastructure. ‘Kids will die’ A senior US medic told the BBC that scores of people injured in the earthquake could die if the US did not resume emergency evacuations soon. “The consequences – in the kids with crushed chests and on ventilators and respirators, and some of the adults – are they will die,” Barth Green, a senior American doctor at a field hospital in Port-au-Prince airport, told the BBC. Among the patients was a five-year-old girl suffering from tetanus in a small leg wound. She would die within a day unless evacuated, Dr David Pitcher, a medic at the institute’s temporary field hospital at Haiti’s international airport, told the Associated Press. The US military stopped the flights to Florida on Wednesday. A White House spokesman told the BBC the move was due to “logistical issues”, not because of a row over medical costs as had been reported earlier. “There has been no policy decision made to suspend medical evacuation flights. This is an unprecedented relief effort with enormous logistical hurdles, and we are working through those in an effort to resume medical evacuation flights,” the White House spokesman said. Hundreds of patients with spinal injuries, burns and other wounds have been evacuated to the US since the 12 January quake that killed up to 200,000 people.

JLo to be questioned about sexuality in court

Posted by admin On January - 31 - 2010 | Vizualizari: 33 ADD COMMENTS

American actress Jennifer Lopez’s ex-husband Ojani Noa’s representative has revealed that he will question her about her sexuality in open court. The announcement came as the ongoing dispute between Lopez, 40, and Noa faced another round in court with a judge rejecting the actress’ attempt to send the matter to arbitration. Noa has been attempting to win the right to use a home video of Lopez for commercial gain, but her attorneys have so far managed to obtain an injunction blocking him using it. Now Ed Meyer, who is Noa’s business manager and executive producer for his in-development movie, is turning up the pressure, and has revealed that the home video shows Lopez kissing girls. “The first question I plan on asking Jennifer Lopez on the stand is if she is bi-sexual,” Radar Online quoted Meyer as saying on January 29 after the court ruling. But while Meyer refers to the video as “sex tapes”, as source, who has seen the tapes, has revealed that they do not depict sex and, at best, some portions could be considered “racy”.

Aerosmith’s lead vocalist Steven Tyler is said to have completed 30 days of “intensive sobriety treatment” in a California rehabilitation clinic. According to a statement from the singer’s management company, Tenth Street Entertainment, Tyler, 61, is now undergoing a 90-day “residential day treatment program”. Tyler has been spotted in the Palm Desert area in recent weeks, leading to speculation he has been staying at the Betty Ford Clinic, and on January 23 he showed up at a Home Depot hardware market and sang two Aerosmith songs over the store’s tannoy system. “He has privileges to leave the grounds… He was shopping,” Contactmusic quoted a source as telling People magazine. You are a Good Dentist

You remember when your parents or girlfriend see your photo and said to you “your teeth are very yellowish”. Because in real life we are animated, and minor imperfections or yellowish teeth’s less noticeable. When you freeze a moment in time and give the eye a chance to concentrate on these minor imperfections then everybody knows the truth. Now its time to say, go to the doctor and check your eyes because my teeth’s are perfect.

First choose your Magic Wand tool, lasso tool (or any other selection tool) to put a selection around your teeth. To refine your selection, go to Quick Mask mode and use your Paintbrush tool to modify the mask.

Now that you have a refined mask, feather the selection radius by 2 pixels (Select > Feather) to give a nice blended edge. First remove the yellowing (Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation). Select Ok.  When the Hue/Saturation dialog box appears, from the Edit pop-up menu, choose Yellows. Then to remove yellowing, lower the Saturation slider.

There are two ways to brighten the teeth. Choose anyone from following.

  • First Method -> Now from the Edit pop-up menu, choose Master and drag the Lightness slider to the right to brighten the teeth.
  • Second Method -> Select (Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels), and move the middle slider to the left a bit. Different amounts of whitening are called for in every image, so use your own judgment and experiment until it looks right to you.

In the end I would like to say that I tried to make the teeth’s better and not make them unrealistic. In fact, the little imperfections part of a real-live person. As you know suggestion and comments are always welcome on my email address: ashras99@rediffmail.com
